Senior Community Centers has grown from a heartfelt effort to feed seniors under the Catholic Charities umbrella in 1970 to an independent non-profit organization with a $7 million operating budget in 2013.
Aside from providing all-around services that help low-income seniors strive in their golden years, we also mobilize young and young-at-heart community members to speak up and fight for their rights. It can be stressful and we may not get the immediate results that we desire, but we keep fighting to protect and empower our clients.
As we prepare to face the impact of sequestration, it feels great to be reminded of why we do what we do. One of our senior clients dropped off the following letter at the Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center recently:
